Representative Carlos Curbelo (FL-26) released the following statement commenting on reports the U.S. will sanction the eight judges on Venezuela’s Supreme Court that stripped the Venezuelan Congress of all its powers earlier this year:

“With these new sanctions, this Administration is putting Nicolas Maduro and his thugs on notice. The United States will no longer stand by and watch Maduro twist and manipulate the Venezuelan constitution so he can continue to violate the human rights of the people of Venezuela. The regime’s thuggish tactics, unethical behavior, and lethal force against innocent civilians are seen week-after-week, and over the last several years, thousands of opposition protestors have been arrested and dozens have been left for dead or killed.

“I commend the President and the Administration for this strong message of solidarity with the freedom-loving people of Venezuela, and I encourage all our allies in this hemisphere to join the United States in this effort.”
