Education and the Workforce Committee Mark-Up Child Nutrition Bill
Washington, D.C.—Today, the Education and the Workforce Committee marked-up H.R. 5003, the Improving Child Nutrition and Education Act of 2016.
“Today the House took the first step towards strengthening and reforming our child nutrition programs to ensure that they are serving the most needy children and families in a way that protects taxpayers. The Committee's product includes encouraging provisions such as an increased reimbursement for the School Breakfast Program and a greater focus on nutrition education through the Farm to School Program. However, this legislation is far from perfect, and I look forward to working with both Republicans and Democrats to improve it as it makes its way through the legislative process. As a former Miami-Dade County School Board Member, it is a priority for me to ensure that America's children have access to healthy meals at school.”
