Curbelo Statement After Passage of Keystone XL Pipeline Act
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today Rep. Carlos Curbelo (FL-26) issued the following statement after the House passed S.1, The Keystone XL Pipeline Act:
"It's time for the President to show that he is serious about working with Congress to make America more energy independent and to help create quality jobs and opportunities for American families. S.1, The Keystone XL Pipeline Act, has passed both Chambers of Congress with bipartisan support and should be quickly signed into law by President Obama."
S.1, The Keystone XL Pipeline Act, immediately authorizes the construction and operation of the Keystone XL Pipeline. Additionally, S.1 provides that the Final Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) issued by the State Department in January 2014 shall fully satisfy all requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 and any other provision of law that requires federal agency consultation or review. The Keystone Pipeline Act keeps in effect any previously-issued federal permit concerning this pipeline and continues to protect the rights of private property owners that may be affected by the pipelines route.
On January 29, the Senate passed S.1 by a vote of 62-36 and the House passed the same bill on February 11 by a vote of 270-152. It is now headed to the President's desk where it is likely to be vetoed.
