Washington, D.C.
— Guillermo “Coco” Fariñas, a Cuban freedom fighter, marks the 50th day of his hunger strike in protest of the Castro regime’s violent crackdown on dissidents in light of President Obama’s normalization policy. Rep. Carlos Curbelo (FL-26) released the following statement urging the President to contact Mr. Fariñas to discuss his motivation behind his hunger strike and the desolate conditions facing Cuban dissidents:

“Mr. Fariñas is a Cuban patriot dedicated to the freedom and liberty of his fellow countrymen. He has suffered greatly at the hands of the communist regime and is a vocal critic of President Obama’s unilateral concessions to the Castro dictatorship. I urge President Obama to contact Mr. Fariñas and let him know that the American people have not forgotten the Cuban internal opposition and stand in solidarity with the brave men and women within the island trying to make change for a free and just Cuba.”
