Curbelo Helps Secure Grant for Smart Prosecution Initiative
Washington, D.C.—The U.S. Department of Justice recently announced that the State Attorney’s Office of the 11th Judicial Circuit in Miami has been awarded a grant of $350,000 for the Smart Prosecution Initiative. Rep. Carlos Curbelo (FL-26), a supporter of this funding, released the following statement:
“I am proud to have helped secure this important grant for the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s office that will provide $350,000 for the Smart Prosecution Initiative. This program, administered by the U.S. Department of Justice, will develop a body of knowledge about data-driven strategies and best practices as they are implemented by prosecutors. These funds will be used to identify problems faced by prosecutors and address enhanced decision-making to promote the fair, impartial, and expeditious pursuit of justice. With these funds, prosecutors will share ideas to make our communities more safe by promoting integrity in the prosecutorial profession and providing an overall better criminal justice system."
Funding for this program was made available in H.R. 2029, “Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2016,” legislation supported by Rep. Curbelo.
