Miami, Florida—Today, Rep. Carlos Curbelo (FL-26) hosted Speaker Paul Ryan in South Florida. They visited Caribbean K-8 Center in Miami.

“During today’s visit to Caribbean K-8 Center with Speaker Ryan, we met with students, faculty, and administrators who have directly benefited from the passage of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). As a Member of the Education and the Workforce Committee in Congress and former School Board Member of Miami-Dade County Public Schools, one of my top priorities has always been to ensure that English Language Learners (ELL) are given a fair opportunity to thrive. I was proud to advocate for these ELL students and included an amendment in ESSA that will allow them extra time to become more proficient in English before scores are held against them. Caribbean K-8 Center has many students learning English as a second language, and it is encouraging to see the positive impact that bipartisanship in Congress can have on children in our South Florida community,” said Curbelo.

“Rep. Curbelo is able to work with colleagues across the ideological spectrum to find solutions that will benefit Florida’s 26th Congressional district. Today’s visit to Caribbean K-8 Center is an example of his diligent work to do what’s best for his community and seek a better way for our country.”
said Speaker Ryan.
