Washington, D.C.—Yesterday, Venezuela’s electoral authority postponed a recall drive against President Nicolas Maduro. This comes less than a week before members of the opposition were preparing to collect one fifth of voters’ signatures in order to place the recall on their ballot. Rep. Carlos Curbelo (FL-26) released the following statement condemning the Maduro regime:

“The most recent actions by Venezuela’s electoral authority under the Maduro regime are just another example of the systemic and glaring corruption of the Venezuelan government. I continue to stand in absolute solidarity with the people of Venezuela who deserve a true and fair democratic process. True democracy is a right that is guaranteed by the Venezuelan Constitution, and we must continue to support all Venezuelans in their fight to regain freedom. The Organization of American States‎ must act to support the rule of law in Venezuela and to preserve it's own integrity."
