Curbelo on What Comey Firing Means for Russia Investigation
Following the announcement the President had fired FBI Director James Comey, Representative Carlos Curbelo (FL-26) shared his concerns on the timing of the firing and what this means for the status of the investigation into Russia’s meddling in the last election with NBC 6.
Last night, Curbelo issued a statement on the news and reiterated his previous calls for a Select Committee to investigate any possible ties or contact between Administration or campaign officials and the Russian government or intelligence service.
A partial transcript of the NBC 6 report is available below and video is available here.
U.S. Representative Carlos Curbelo
NBC 6’s Adam Kuperstein: “This is just the second time in U.S. history that a president has fired a sitting FBI director and this news has local politicians shocked. It's sparking criticism from both sides of the aisle too. Congressman Carlos Curbelo, a Republican, demanding answers. He says the American public needs to know why Comey was fired and why now.”
Congressman Carlos Curbelo: “This obviously also casts some light on the investigation into Russia's involvement in our last election. It is critical that that investigation continue because the American people deserve to know the truth, the full truth regarding what happened with Russia's involvement in our last election and if any U.S. persons in any way collaborated with Russian efforts.”
Kuperstein: “And Curbelo added, ‘We must pursue the facts wherever they may lead.’”
