VIDEO: Curbelo Discusses Tax Reform and Increased American Competitiveness With Policy Experts
This morning, Representative Carlos Curbelo (FL-26) participated in a Ways and Means Committee hearing to address the need for comprehensive tax reform as a method for the U.S. to incentivize business innovation, preserve market competition, and grow job opportunity.
Curbelo asked panelist William Simon about how the implementation of the Committee’s Blueprint would apply to communities – such as South Florida – that are currently essential trading areas in the United States, and what improvements to the tax plan might be needed to protect American businesses that rely on overseas commerce for their growth.
A transcript of Curbelo’s opening remarks is available below. A video of the full exchange is available here.U.S. Representative Carlos Curbelo

Representative Carlos Curbelo: “Mr. Chairman, thank you for hosting yet another important hearing on comprehensive tax reform, and I thank the witnesses for their participation today.
“I want to build on my comments from last week and reiterate my support for permanent, revenue-neutral and comprehensive tax reform as the surest way to bring the U.S. economy into the 21st century.
“I am so pleased to hear that there is so much bipartisan consensus in favor of permanent, revenue-neutral tax reform, as it is important that individuals, families, and businesses – of all sizes – have confidence in knowing that their tax system is permanent, fair, and that it strives to achieve the lowest rates and the most simplicity for all tax payers.”
