South Dade News Leader: Big Wins For South Florida in House-Passed Defense Spending Bill
For 55 years, Republicans and Democrats in Congress have come together to ensure the full funding of our national defense. Last week, the House of Representatives did its part to continue this bipartisan tradition with passage of H.R. 2810, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2018. This annual legislation provides the readiness, resources, and reforms needed for our military to continue defending our nation. This year, I was especially proud to support this bill and the big victories it included for South Florida and our men and women in uniform across the country.
For most Members of Congress, the NDAA is about meeting our responsibilities to defend this country by using taxpayer dollars in a smart, efficient way to rebuild, reform and ready our military. For me, it was about that and much more. Last week's passage in the House was a victory for South Florida, for sensible environmental policies we need to ensure our community's resiliency, and for the men and women in uniform I have the honor of representing. As the bill moves through the legislative process, I will continue to fight to ensure the victories we saw in the House make it into the final bill.
