Representative Carlos Curbelo (FL-26), South Florida’s only representative on the tax-writing House Committee on Ways and Means, issued the following statement commenting on the final tax reform legislation released by the Conference Committee:

“A pro-growth, pro-family, simplified tax code is coming. While this bill is not perfect, it will certainly provide South Floridians and families across the country an opportunity to prosper. As a Member of Ways and Means, I have been a strong supporter of expanding the child tax credit to make sure our new simplified tax code leaves America's hard-working families more prosperous. Thanks to the tireless leadership and advocacy of Florida's Senator Marco Rubio, this important benefit was further strengthened in the Senate and has been solidified in this final legislation. I’m glad the Conference Committee heeded our calls to make the child tax credit even more robust. American families deserve no less.

“We still have a lot of critical issues that need to be addressed next week, including a permanent solution for DACA recipients, funding of the Children’s Health Insurance Program, and hurricane disaster relief. But at the very least I’m grateful we will be taking decisive action on a tax code that will ensure all Americans – especially the most vulnerable – are given the opportunity to keep more of their hard-earned paychecks and provide a better life for themselves and their families.”
