Representative Carlos Curbelo (FL-26), released the following statement commenting on the Department of Justice decision to crack down on legal marijuana businesses:

“Businesses operating legally and in compliance with their state's laws and regulations deserve a federal government that respects the Tenth Amendment of the Constitution. It’s why I introduced bipartisan legislation to provide legally-operated, licensed businesses tax parity to make appropriate business deductions. It's very disappointing for an Attorney General who supposedly respects the federalist model of our government take such a drastic step ignoring states’ rights and the decisions of voters and state legislatures across the country.”

Curbelo and Representative Earl Blumenauer (OR–3) introduced the Small Business Tax Equity Act of 2017, H.R. 1810 earlier this year. This legislation would amend Section 280E of the Internal Revenue Code to allow marijuana businesses operating in compliance with state law to utilize common tax deductions and credits.
