Curbelo: New Tariff Policy Must Be Further Refined and Targeted
Representative Carlos Curbelo (FL-26), South Florida’s only Member on the House Ways and Means Committee, issued the following statement commenting on the President’s new steel and aluminum tariff policy:
“Unless this tariff policy is further refined and targeted to counter abusive trade practices by bad actors, it will end up punishing the American people and job creators who rely on these products for manufacturing and construction.
“Over the last few days, countless American employers have contacted my office warning of the negative consequences this announced policy will have on them, their employees, and their customers. In my district alone, these tariffs could have a drastic impact on the cost of living and doing business in the commercial and recreational fishing industry. At a time when the Florida Keys fishing industry is still recovering from Hurricane Irma’s devastation to property and our waters, fishermen cannot afford a higher cost of doing business.
“I look forward to working with the Administration and my colleagues in Congress to improve this policy and protect American consumers.”
