Curbelo Recognized as 2018 Hero of Main Street
– Representative Carlos Curbelo (FL-26) was recognized this week as a 2018 Hero of Main Street by the National Retail Federation (NRF) for his consistent support of policies important to retail small businesses in South Florida and across the country. The awards were presented as small retailers across the country gathered in Washington for NRF’s Retail Advocates Summit.
“From farm stands in South Dade to gift shops in the Florida Keys to cafeterias in Kendall, our community enterprises are a critical part of our daily lives and the South Florida economy,” Curbelo said. “With Miami's small business economy ranking in the top 10 nationwide and making up roughly 90% of the South Florida economy, we know and appreciate our local establishments. I’m proud to fight for policies that help these businesses grow, prosper and support thousands of South Florida families.”
The National Retail Federation is the world’s largest retail trade association. Based in Washington, D.C., NRF represents discount and department stores, home goods and specialty stores, Main Street merchants, grocers, wholesalers, chain restaurants and internet retailers from the United States and more than 45 countries. Retail is the nation’s largest private-sector employer, supporting one in four U.S. jobs — 42 million working Americans – and contributing $2.6 trillion to annual GDP.
