Washington, D.C
. — Rep. Curbelo issued the following statement as both the House and Senate passed Trade Promotion Authority and Trade Adjustment Assistance:

“I proudly stand with my colleagues in both the House and Senate for advancing these critical bills to strengthen the United States’ role as the leader in today’s global economy. By adopting this TPA and TAA legislation, Congress now has unprecedented oversight in structuring any future free trade agreements, with transparency being at the bedrock of all negotiations.

South Florida is often referred to as “The Gateway to the Americas,” and we see the benefits of free trade in my district first-hand. I am proud Congress was able to pass these bipartisan bills and look forward to working together on future free trade agreements.”

H.R. 1295, the Trade Preferences Extension Act of 2015 (TAA), passed the House on June 25 by a vote of 286-138. H.R. 2146, the Bipartisan Congressional Trade Priorities and Accountability Act of 2015 (TPA), passed the Senate on June 24 by a vote of 60-38. Both bills are expected to be quickly signed into law by President Obama.
