Rep. Curbelo on Appointment to NDAA Conference Committee
Washington, D.C.—Rep. Carlos Curbelo (FL-26) was appointed to the Conference Committee on the FY16 National Defense Authorization Act. He offered the following statement:
“I am greatly honored to be selected as a Conferee to the Conference Committee on H.R. 1735, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2016. As Vice Chairman of the Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation, it is a privilege to represent my South Florida constituents while working on the very important issues affecting our military servicemen and women.
Both the House and Senate have worked hard to pass transformative bills to strengthen our armed services. The Conference Committee, consisting of Senators and Representatives from both parties, will allow Congress to resolve minor differences. As a Conferee, I am proud to participate in this important process.
Speaker of the House John Boehner offered the following statement on Rep. Curbelo’s appointment:
“As a valued Member of the Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, Rep. Curbelo is a strong advocate for the Coast Guard and maritime industry. Rep. Curbelo works tirelessly for the Coasties stationed at US Coast Guard Sector Key West, and as the representative of our country’s southern-most Congressional district, has unique insights into the eradication of drug trafficking. I am pleased to appoint Rep. Curbelo to the Conference Committee for FY16 National Defense Authorization Act and look forward to working with him in passing a bill to strengthen our armed services and provide stability to the members of our military.”
H.R. 1735, the National Defense Authorization Act for FY16, passed the House on May 15 by a vote of 269-151. The bill passed the Senate with an amendment by a vote of 71-25 on June 18. The House appointed Conferees on July 10, and is expected to consider the Conference Report to H.R. 1735 in the upcoming weeks.
