Rep. Curbelo Announces Guest for the State of the Union Address
Washington, D.C.—Today, Congressman Carlos Curbelo (FL-26) will be attending the State of the Union Address accompanied by his guest, Mrs. Tara M. Parks.
“I am pleased to invite Mrs. Tara M. Parks from South Dade to be my guest for President Obama’s final State of the Union. As the President of Families Affected By Gun Violence, she serves as a voice for those who have fallen victim to violent crimes in our South Florida community. She experienced firsthand the tragedy of these senseless acts when she lost her 22-year-old son in July of 2014. Tara’s story is sadly one that Americans have heard too many times. Congress must find comprehensive solutions to address community violence which means: promoting educational and work opportunities, investing in mental health, empowering local leaders to find solutions that will lift families out of poverty, and ensuring that laws and regulations designed to prevent criminals from obtaining firearms are properly enforced."
Mrs. Tara M. Parks provided the following statement: “I am deeply honored to join Congressman Curbelo as his guest for the State of the Union. As the mother of a child who was killed as a result of gun violence I applaud Congressman Curbelo and President Obama for working together to enhance enforcement and protect our youth. This issue is of the utmost importance to South Dade and all the families that have lost loved ones to gun violence, and I appreciate Congressman Curbelo affording me the opportunity to join in this National conversation.”
