Rep. Curbelo Testifies Before Congress on Mitigation Bill
“I was proud to testify on behalf of my bill, the National Mitigation Investment Act, during today’s hearing on controlling the costs of federal responses to natural disasters. This bill serves as a step forward to revitalizing the way the United States oversees pre and post-natural disaster preparedness and restoration. H.R. 5177 would work to encourage the adoption of state building codes throughout the country, and incentivize those localities that adhere to these standards. It would also help to alleviate the burden experienced after chronic tidal flooding which is a significant threat to real estate in South Florida and other waterfront communities. I thank Chairman Barletta and Ranking Member Carson for allowing me to testify before the Committee, and my friend, Rep. Albio Sires (NJ-08) for his work on this legislation and commitment to working towards pre-disaster mitigation.” To learn more about H.R. 5177, please click here.
