Washington, D.C.—After discovering that her daughter, Yanelys Serralvo, was diagnosed with Metastatic Nasopharyngeal cancer, Clara Luz Serralvo found herself unable to obtain a non-immigrant visa to visit her daughter in hospice care. Due to their consultation with Ambassador DeLaurentis, Congressman Curbelo and Mr. Evelio Echemendia ensured that Ms. Serralvo’s mother was granted her visa and will soon be reunited with her daughter. Rep. Curbelo has since released the following statement:

“My office has worked closely with friends and colleagues of Yanelys Serralvo on this heartbreaking case. After securing an expedited review of her application, we spoke with Ambassador DeLaurentis yesterday who assured us that the case would receive the appropriate and immediate attention it merits.  I am gratified to learn that after Ms. Serralvo’s mother interviewed earlier this morning, her case was approved by consular officials at the U.S. Embassy in Havana, and a nonimmigrant visa will be issued shortly.  I extend my profound appreciation to Ambassador DeLaurentis, and the consular staff at the American Embassy, for their work to ensure that this family is together during this difficult time. I also want to thank Mr. Felipe Valls for his generous commitment to his former employee and her family." - Congressman Carlos Curbelo

- Congresista Carlos Curbelo
